Here are the first steps you need to take to set up your new StephanieHellwig.com Theme to look like our demo site.

1. Install the Genesis Framework & your SH.com child theme

In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme. Upload the Genesis Framework zip file, but do not activate it. It just needs to be present in the themes directory and will run quietly in the background. Next, upload your child theme and this one you will activate.

2.  Import demo content (optional)

Included in the theme zip file is a folder named xml. Inside this folder is a file named demo content.xml. If you’d like to import the content from the theme demo, go to Tools > Import/Export and import this file.

Note: This file only imports the posts, pages and menus so you have something to work with while building your site. It does not automatically set up the theme to resemble the demo.  You will also want to set featured images for your posts & pages.

3.  Run the Required Plugin Installer

Once the theme is installed and active, you will see the following prompt to install the necessary plugins in your dashboard:Screen Shot 2015-12-18 at 4.31.24 PM Click the link to begin installing plugins.  The next screen you will see will look like this:

Check the box at the very top to select all the plugins on the list:

Now under the bulk actions menu, select install and click “apply”.  Once all the plugins are installed, at the bottom of the page there will be a link to return to the Required Plugins Installer.  Click this link.

You will repeat this process to check all the plugins again, and this time, select activate from the bulk actions menu.

Good job!  Just a few more steps to getting it looking just right, now let’s add the widgets you see in our demo site.
